Lockup syncing Samsung GT-N5110 (MTP)

I've been trying to use FFS to sync the SD card in my tablet (Samsung GT-N5110 / Android 4.2.2) since the '8' series (8.1, 8.2, 8.3) came out and in all cases the compare works but sync locks up. Windows indicates 'not responding' and the only way out is to terminate FFS through the crash dialog or task manager.
It wouldn't surprise me to find this is some deficiency in the tablet / Android but I'm gonna post this here just in case someone knows of a solution.
