Please make 'call home' optional

FFS is probably calling home to see if there's a new version, but whatever it is, could you please make it optional.

The reason I am asking for this is this: I have a strongly firewalled network and any app that attempts to initiate a connection to the outside world has, first, to be christened by me (or the Admin).

FFS is not among them; simply because it normally has no reason to call home..

So, when I start FFS, it freezes for about 30 seconds until it realizes that there's no way to connect to outside world.

This is not only annoying, but also counter-productive for me.

A better solution would be, either do that in a separate thread so that it does not freeze the app; or --a much better solution-- make the 'call home' function entirely optional.

I very much prefer the latter.
