From what I can see, if you set: Help | Check for new version -> Check automatically (uncheck) Then you no longer get the popup notifying you of the update (though the Menu bar then does still display the fact that an update exists). That said, seems it does not work for some, Stop Checking For Upda...

Re: refusing optional software aborts FFS installation
I was offered "ByteFence Anti-Malware", which I declined, clicked, Next, & the install then finished without incident.
What OS?
You are running the actual installer, FreeFileSync_8.5_Windows_Setup.exe (or similar), downloaded from FFS.org?

Re: 8.5 still has the install.dat issue/problem
install.dat is specific to the specific FFS version. So FFS 8.4 install.dat is different from FFS 8.5 install.dat ... From what I found (if I'm remembering correctly) install.dat is also specific to ... perhaps something along the lines of ... specific to a machine. But that said, that (initial) ins...

Also try a search for *.ffs_*.
You might find, LastRun.ffs_gui or specifically saved & named .ffs_gui or .ffs_batch files.

Delete the shortcut.
Ignore the rest.
Unless you actually set up to use a RealTimeSync, it does nothing.

Is there any procedure to remove all timestamps? I have no idea about that from the FFS end, but you should be able to do that with a file renamer. Bulk Rename Utility looks like it should be able to handle it. Screenshot: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Shots/mainscr.png 1:RegEx Match: (.*)( \d...

So it sounds like you shouldn't need to have it enabled - in your case. Though from what I can see, it is enabled by default, at least in Windows? You loaded a particular Profile, Photography Drive, in this case.
During your sync, you made changes, in some way to the Profile settings, & when you went to exit, its just asking if you want to save those changes back to disk, to that Profile, Photography Drive.

I think it means that you also need to copy the Hidden-System file, Desktop.ini when you make your syncs. So in 12:Filters, you want to check the 'Hidden' box. --- If a folder has the Readonly or System flag set, then Explorer will look for a desktop.ini file which describes the folder customization...

(Not that I have any clue about such things, but...) in Win7, perhaps, simply setting the ffs.exe (change to the correct executable name) priority to 'Below Normal' will allow "normal" inactivity to put the computer into sleep. And presumably upon awakening the (ffs.exe) task will resume? ...

In any case, I would think straight networking would be more convenient.
