Re: Noob question: clarify exactly what the FFS category icons mean?

Do you have tooltips disabled in your Windows settings?

Normally, when you hover the mouse over the icons, you are told what they mean - the easiest and most effective help I can imagine, much quicker than having to peruse the manual.

Re: FFS changes modification date/time of base folder, then wants to sync all files

I don't think there is an actual setting to ignore 1h differences, although I wish it were. From time to time (no pun intended) I run into the same problem when syncing old drives that carry various DST time stamps. Quoting the help file: In order for FreeFileSync to start handling DST and timezone ...

Baffles me too. No clue what's going on here.
Why can't you update to a newer version?

Re: Unexpected Conflict in Sync Mode

I could not reproduce it with FFS 6.3, neither in Mirror nor in TwoWay Mode. FFS showed no conflict when a file was deleted on one side only. Just to wrap it up: Folder_A: You delete File-A, but you do not touch its duplicate File-A(old). Folder_B: Both files, File-A and File-A(old) are still there....

Re: FFS should does not keep the sessions list in portable version

What you didn't say: Can you still open your other ffs_gui files, even though the list inside FFS doesn't show them. In other words: Are those ffs_gui files really missing on your portable drive (because Windows saved them into Roaming or VirtualStore or wherever) or do you see them on your portable...

Re: File Format?

Sure you can recover your stuff with any file manager, PE CD etc. With "experiment" I didnt refer to real data, of course. Create a folder with dummy files, the change them and sync back and forth, try to reocver them from a Live CD, whatever it takes to convince yourself. Again: The files...

THANKS. Works like a charm now.
Also a really good idea to combine the 3 dialogs - allows a quick step-through to double-check at one glance.

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

I cannot find GlobalSettings.xml anymore. But I remember editing it directly, so it must have been in the portable FFS folder in version 6.2

EDIT: Just installed (portable) 6.4 and everything is fine again. GlobalSettings.xml is back in the portable prog folder.

Re: File Format?

Not sure what you're talking about. If you refer to "sync.ffs_db" which is used to keep track of two-way mirroring, I doubt you could use just any file manager to make sense of it. That would be very unusual. The files themselves are left untouched, of course. Why don't you try it out with...

Re: 2 sec not respected

False Alarm. The strange workings of my mind. I had overlooked the 1 hour difference. To my defense: I ran a sync on old folders that I always used to sync with another tool that covers Daylight Saving Time differences. Quite useful, actually. Let me rephrase it into a request: I wish there were an ...

Re: Feature request: Predefine how to handle conflicts

Do nothing - already possible
Left or right wins - already possible
Newer file wins - this has priority anyway, as far as I know. Size only comes into the game if the datetimes are identical.

2 sec not respected

Seems like in 6.3 the FileTimeTolerance of GlobalSettings.xml is not respected.
Tons of files are listed as different, even though they differ in slightly different time stamps only.

Save As

The interface is so good that I never use the menu (actually, wish it could be hidden) However, by clicking the Save button I keep overwriting my presets (no pop-up warning). I wish there was a way to "Save as...." (right-clicking the Save-button or an additional button, or forking out wit...

Re: change database location

@Zenju: Thanks for clarifying. The master-hub-star analogy made me understand. The goal is not to sync together 3 instances, but rather to ALWAYS sync back to the master first. In other words, you don't allow working on B and C simultaneously. C has to wait for B to finish and sync back to the maste...

Re: change database location

I cannot help you, but I'd like to understand your question. Two-way sync, right? 1) A-B = new/changed data travels both ways 2) A-C = A gets data from C, which gets data from A (and thus also from B, because of step 1) 3) A changes. If you now run A-B again, B will overwrite changes of C on A (chan...

Re: Copy Individual Files

You double-click a file in the list. This will copy it to the other side - irrespective of any rules from your sync settings (F8). This works in both directions. You see a file (on the right or left) that got an action assigned you don't agree with (no action or wrong arrow direction). So you either...

It would indeed be nice to have such an individual file copy feature. I keep facing the same issue, here's the work-around I've been using: Tools > Global Settings > Customize Context Menu In the first line of that table (for access via Double-click) or in any other line (for access via right-click)...

Re: FFS issues: Slow down of source PC & Slow transfer speeds

Afraid I cant help you out. My transfer speeds vary a lot, depending on USB-sticks, and also on the number of files, many small files take much longer than a few big ones. I also noticed that running the same profile twice results in much faster Compare-speed. Only the first go-around takes a lot of...

Re: FFS issues: Slow down of source PC & Slow transfer speeds

I love FFS! I use FFS 6.3 on My win 8 laptop PC to mirror files from my desktop PC running win 8. Recently I noticed that the transfer rates are very slow (25% of what it used to be). Moreover when FFS is running in the laptop PC, the source PC (desktop) gets slowed down. It seems odd because I am ...
